The characteristics of the area and the few means available to the population have led the Association FundaciónDoña Lucia to focus mainly on financial help and support in the educational field: a cultural and professional vocation is the only way boys and girls have to choose their own future and, at the same time, to improve the social milieu in which they live.

Families do not even have the means to purchase the basic items necessary to attend school, which, although compulsory, is nearly immediately discontinued. The considerable distance that separates the rural areas from school centres also adds to the difficulty children experience to attend them, because they sometimes have to walk even two hours to reach their school.
The situation concerning secondary education is even worse, since there are no high schools outside Aiquile, which means that in order to attend them, the adolescents from the rural areas would have no choice but to move to the provincial capital, paying a fee families cannot afford.

Considering all of the above, we have decided to channel our efforts towards three main areas:

1) supporting primary education with the School Project;

2) promoting high school attendance through grants;

3) raising contributions to develop school building and maintenance.
